29″ No lift required since this is close to stock, however small lifts will increase clearance greatly No lift required – however a 1″ or 2″ body lift could be used to increase clearance. No trimming required and none recommended No change needed
30″ x 9.5″ No lift required for street use since such a narrow tire. 2″ to 3″ lifts are recommended for trail use to increase clearance No lift is required but a 1″ or 2″ body lift can be used to gain clearance and clearance No trimming is required and none is recommended No change needed but 3.73 is best
31″ x 9.5″ No lift required for street use, but is really pushing it, however, 2″ to 3″ lifts are recommended for trail use to increase articulation No lift is required but 2″ body lift can be used to gain clearance (street use only) No trimming is required and none is recommended 3.73 is ok, 4.27 is better for high-end
31″ x 10.5″ +; A 3″ lift recommended. 2″ lift will not work for trail use due to rubbing in rear wells. 2″ body lift can be used to gain clearance (street use only) No trimming is recommended for most off-road use. Jeepster flares are an option. 3.73 is ok, 4.27 is better for high-end
32″ A 3″ lift would be required, a 4″ lift would provide increased clearance without rubbing A 2″ lift combined w/ 3″ springs or 1″ lift with 4″ springs Trimming rear recommended. Installing Jeepster flares could replace need for lift. 4.27 recommended
33″ A 4″ suspension lift or spring over conversion (5″) recommended. Longer brake lines, driveshafts and shocks required. A 1″ or 2″ body lift may be combined to increase clearance Trimming of rear fender edges combined with 2″ or 3″ lift would eliminate rubbing. Jeepster flares could reduce lift requirements. 4.27 is good, but 4.56 maybe better for high-end
35″ A 4″ suspension lift or spring over conversion (5″) is needed. New aAxles, Driveshafts, shocks, brakelines & brake (disc) upgrades are recommended A 2″ body lift must be combined to avoid rubbing. Trimming of rear fender edges will be needed if lift is less than 6″. Jeepster flares could reduce lift requirements. 4.56 recommended, but 4.88 maybe better for high-end
38″ A 6″ suspension lift or spring over conversion (5″) is needed. New axles, Driveshafts, bumpstops, shocks, brakelines & brake (disc) upgrades are strongly recommended A 2″ body lift could be combined to avoid rubbing and cutting. Trimming of rear fender edges required. Jeepster flares could reduce lift requirements. 4.88 recommended, anything lower risks pinion/ring strength

Footnotes:

Spring lift: For any lift over 2″, the following must be modified for safety and proper performance: Shocks, drive lines, brake flex lines and steering components.

Body lift: A 2″ lift is the recommended maximum. A lift over 2″ can lead to problems with steering, shifting linkage, throttle cable, radiator hoses, gas tank filler tube and more.

A CJ 3″ body lift can be purchased and the bushings cut in half to supply the 13 required bushings of the Jeepster.

Jeepster flares are made by and available from Jim Serr (916) 645-8761.
